Italy’s consumer price index rose by 0.1 per cent month on month (MoM) and by 1.9 per cent YoY in April. Core inflation (excluding energy and unprocessed food) was 2.1 per cent in the month, and inflation excluding energy was 2.2 per cent. The harmonised index of consumer prices rose by 0.4 per cent MoM, mainly due to the end of the winter sales of clothing and footwear, and by 2 per cent YoY.
The unemployment rate in OECD members was broadly stable at 4.9 per cent in March, having been at or below 5 per cent since April 2022. March unemployment rates were unchanged month on month in 23 OECD countries, rose in five and declined in four. In the EU and the euro area, such rates were stable for the sixth consecutive month at their record lows of 5.8 per cent and 6.2 per cent respectively.
UK’s clothing imports rose by 11.99 per cent year-on-year to £1.419 billion (~$1.883 billion) in March 2025 and by 9.91 per cent from February 2025. First-quarter imports increased by 10.28 per cent to £4.075 billion. However, full-year 2024 imports fell by 7.06 per cent to £14.612 billion.
